BASIC INFORMATION

Name: Nasu Rei

Canon: World Trigger

Age: 17

Bio: Nasu comes from a version of Earth much like our own, and lives in Japan in Mikado City, where she's a high school student. Four years ago, Mikado City suffered a mass invasion by denizens of a parallel world/universe, called Neighbors; these Neighbors proceeded to kill or kidnap hundreds of people until they were driven off by a mysterious group of people calling themselves "Border". Since then, Border has become a large and respected organization based in Mikado City, employing several hundreds of personnel in its own right. Border now works to counteract Neighbor incursions and defend Japanese citizens so that life can go on in relative normalcy.

Nasu is a Border agent -- specifically, a combatant specializing in mid-range combat. As the captain of a B-rank agent team, she helps to defend against Neighbors and their automated Trion Soldiers while simultaneously balancing schoolwork and her standings in the Rank Wars (scheduled team matchups that Border uses to determine which agents are the best of the best.

Nasu grew up as a sickly girl, afflicted with an unnamed condition that often kept her in bed. Though the exact specifics of her entry into Border are unknown, Nasu apparently became an agent to help research whether people with weak natural bodies could benefit from the use of Trion bodies. The experiment was a resounding success; though Nasu is still not the most vigorous person on earth, she exercises regularly and shows astonishing physical ability in her Trion form.

SYMBIOTE INFORMATION

RHO - Astral Projection
Note: Nasu's projection is conventionally visible to anyone, regardless of telepathic/spiritual/etc ability. At Stage I, she can use her ability twice per day. As she progresses in stages, she can use earlier 'stages' of her ability more often, with shortened cooldown times and ill effects.

For example, at Stage II, she would be able to use her ability at a Stage I-level three to five times a day, with a cooldown of an hour and less sleep. At Stage III, she would be able to ghost shove things (a Stage II ability) without having to sleep half a day, and the effects of being forced to drop her projection would be less severe. She would also be able to user her Stage I ability even more often, with less requirements for rest.

Stage I:
Nasu can create a ghostlike projection of herself, and use this projection to explore her surroundings. This projection is intangible, and can therefore move through mundane physical barriers (but not magical/telepathic/etc. barriers). Nasu's projection is initially generated from the position of her physical body, and her projection must travel in a linear fashion from one location to the next (no teleporting).

In her projection form, Nasu can see and hear, but not taste, touch, or smell. She cannot physically affect her surroundings. However, her projection can be attacked or surprised. If Nasu loses concentration, or if her projection is struck by an attack, Nasu's projection will dissipate and she will wake up in her physical body. Nasu's projection form can travel only within a radius of 60 meters from her body or it will fall apart.

Side effects: After using this ability, Nasu will feel the overwhelming urge to sleep and recover. Although this can be delayed temporarily (for example, if things are exploding and it’s impossible to get to sleep), Nasu will need several minutes to several hours of sleep to function further, depending on length and intensity of usage.
Cool down: several hours

Stage II:
Nasu's projection can now start further away from her body, though Nasu must be able to see this location and choose it before activating this ability. She can travel up to a half-mile away from her body, and also has the ability to interact in limited fashion with her environment: pressing buttons or writing a message, maybe giving someone a ghost shove.

Side effects:
Nasu will need to sleep from between several hours to half a day to recover, depending on length and intensity of usage; she will also experience significant hunger upon waking.
If damaged in her projection form, Nasu’s body will experience sympathetic damage. For example, if someone uses pyrokinesis on her, her body will experience some of the secondary effects of being burned without her body actually being burned.
If Nasu is forced to dissipate in her projection form, she will experience moderate to extreme disorientation (moderate being if someone surprised her and she instinctively dropped the ability, extreme being if her projection was ‘killed’ or if her body was somehow unexpectedly moved out of control range).
Cool down: several hours to a day

Stage III:
Nasu can start at a location anywhere in her control range (up to 25 km), although if the origin point is not directly visible, she must have visited the location prior to materializing her projection form. She can generate Viper-like destructive energy emissions from her projection form, though her ability to physically affect her environment otherwise remains the same as stage II.

Side effects:
Nasu’s sleep requirements range from several hours to an outright comatose state for up to a week. Extreme hunger upon waking.
“Dying” in her projection form causes severe physical repercussions to her true body, including such symptoms as cardiac events, respiratory distress, or actual death.
Same disorientation effects as Stage II.
Extended use of this ability will cause an overall erosion of her physical body’s health, including physical wasting to eventual death.
Cool down: several hours to a week

BROOD PERMISSIONS
-Nasu belongs to an organization called Border, where she is a B-rank agent (whatever that is). She works with a team of fellow agents around her age, about whom she cares deeply. One of them is gone.
-A lot of stuff about Neighbors and the Neighborhood; 'the Neighborhood' seems to be how she thinks of alternate worlds but for some reason this is related to a really complicated planetary chart with orbits that don't make sense. All you scrubs are Neighbors unless proven otherwise.
-Sometimes Nasu doesn't feel too hot, but she doesn't really want to talk about it to strangers.
-Her emotions are usually pretty mellow, she's calculating in a fight.
-She misses her friends a lot; urge to have sleepovers with blankets and talk all night increasing.
-Do you like movies

NEST PERMISSIONS
-Basic emotional states, whether Nasu is feeling especially poorly, that she's some kind of agent who defends Japan from aliens (???).
-She misses home. She misses her operator and teammates. She misses Japanese food.

Setting: Nasu comes from a version of Earth much like our own, and lives in Japan in Mikado City, where she's a high school student.

This gives a general overview of the plot of World Trigger.

History:
Nasu grew up as a sickly girl, afflicted with an unnamed condition that often kept her in bed. Though the exact specifics of her entry into Border are unknown, Nasu apparently became an agent to help research whether people with weak natural bodies could benefit from the use of Trion bodies. The experiment was a resounding success; though Nasu is still not the most vigorous person on earth, she exercises regularly and shows astonishing physical ability in her Trion form.

As a B-rank agent, Nasu eventually formed a unit with several fellow Border agents, all around her age and all seemingly close personal friends: Kumagai, Shiki, and Akane. There, Nasu served as both the captain and the resident ace of her unit and strove with her teammates to break into the top standings of the other B-rank teams. Unfortunately, Akane's parents decided that life in Mikado City was too dangerous and decided to move, meaning that Akane's remaining time with the team would be cut short. As a result, Nasu resolved with her teammates to rise as high as they could in the Rank Wars before Akane's inevitable departure.

It was at this point that Nasu encountered the protagonists' unit, Tamakoma-2. Though Nasu was able to defeat three combatants in solo action, her team ultimately lost to Tamakoma-2, leaving them in low spirits -- though they recovered quickly for Akane's sake.

Nasu later appeared with fellow team member Kumagai to defend Border headquarters against a Neighbor invasion from the country of Galopoula, where they faced off against a Neighbor with the ability to shapeshift. Though sorely tried by the experience, Nasu eventually defeated the Neighbor with a last-minute assist from another agent.

References:Personality:
Nasu is a calm, coolheaded, veteran agent who initially joined Border to see if she could improve her healthy and mobility with Trion-related technology. Though the job is hazardous, requiring her to repeatedly risk herself to defend the people of Mikado City from seasoned soldiers and dangerous Trion automatons, Nasu has nevertheless persisted, rising up from C-rank to become a master-class Shooter-type combatant and captain of her own fighting unit. She juggles her personal life with her medical checkups and assigned defense patrols, as well as regular team exhibition matches. Though naturally sickly, she enjoys exercising in her Trion body, and is not above a friendly pillow fight with other members of her team. In fact, it appears that Border has allowed her to form friendships to a degree that might ordinarily be impossible – Nasu unit regularly stages group chats to review their opponents’ performance, plan strategies, and catch up with each other, all uncommon activities for an often bedridden high school girl.

Unlike some of the other units, whose members can be determined by utility or nepotism, Nasu unit appears to be comprised of friends whose personalities also work well together in battle. All team members, including Nasu herself, care for each other on a personal level, and were particularly inspired by Akane's imminent departure to perform as well as possible before they lost her as a team member. Their debut team match in World Trigger thus reflects a situation that is somewhat out of the ordinary for both Nasu and her team: because Akane is leaving, Nasu is comfortable with throwing out some of their more conventional strategies in the hopes of winning big. In particular, she and the others choose unusual battlefield tactics like fighting in the middle of a monsoon/flooding and destroying the single bridge spanning the battlefield map as a form of surprising, isolating, and demoralizing their enemies.

Within Border, Nasu is feared for her shooting ability, calculative nature, and determination; she can and will switch tactics regularly to whittle down the defenses of multiple opponents at a time. Thus when Tamakoma-2 turns her plans on their head and trap the members of Nasu unit on two sides of a swollen riverbank, it’s Nasu who decides to advance on her own against three other agents. When she is finally taken down at the end of the battle, her only regret appears to be that she ran out of Trion before she could take on a fourth opponent.

Nasu serves as both her unit's captain and ace, which speaks to both her ability to not only perform well in battle but to withstand the responsibilities of her dual roles. As captain, she forms strategies and looks after other members of the team; as ace, she is under pressure to defeat opponents and score rank points. Her double roles are all the more unusual due to her Shooter specialty -- Shooters are generally understood to have a harder time racking up solo kills compared to Snipers and close-range Attackers, due to not being able to specialize in close or long-range combat. Nasu circumvents these natural limitations with natural Trion ability and a talent for combat movement and quickly mastering new weapons. Also in her favor is her versatility; she is capable of programming the flight paths of her Trion bullets on-the-fly (a feat so difficult that apparently only one other agent is capable of doing so).

Nevertheless, Nasu works best with agents with whom she has familiarity and overall synergy -- particularly her good friend Kumagai, whom she combines forces with to fight off a Galopaulan Neighbor later in the manga. Though generally even-tempered, she becomes particularly incensed when the shapeshifting Neighbor poses as Kuma and tricks Nasu into attacking her friend. Though temporarily taken by surprise, Nasu is able to set aside any guilt quickly; it is only once the situation is analyzed that she subjects her opponent to a particularly brutal takedown.

While most of Nasu’s screentime is in-battle, her actions as a Border agent paint Nasu as an adaptive, intelligent, and patient person, loyal to her friends and willing to try new things. Though she may not have a family member’s death goading her to revenge herself against the Neighbors, Nasu’s friendships with the other members of her unit consistently prod her to improve herself; it is for their shared goals that she continues to fight. Methodical in her work and used to pushing herself hard, Nasu seems poised for continued success into adulthood.

Canon Abilities/Skills:
Nasu is a Border agent, meaning that she uses a specialized piece of technology called a Trigger to defeat interdimensional invaders that attack her home city, Mikado. At its most basic level, using the Trigger temporarily replaces her real body with a body made entirely of Trion (a sort of life energy). This Trion body is largely immune to ordinary physical attacks, and provides Nasu with increased strength and speed (for example, she would be able to move large pieces of rubble aside to help townspeople escape). Nasu is agile and lightweight in this form, able to perform astonishing jumps and even run across the sides of buildings.

If Nasu's Trion body is damaged beyond repair, it dissolves, leaving her considerably weaker physical body behind. Because the Trion body cannot be repaired, Nasu must generate a new Trion body to use every time this happens, which takes both time (at least a few hours) and Trion. Nasu can also adjust the amount of pain she 'feels' when her Trion body is damaged.

The length of time for which the Trion body can be maintained depends on a number of variables:
  • It contains a finite amount of Trion, which is expended through use. Once these reserves are exhausted, it dissolves on its own.
  • The more Trion the user has, the longer the Trion body lasts. Nasu has a relatively large amount of Trion (7 out of a 10 scale), and would therefore be able to sustain her body for a longer amount of time provided that she was not expending energy.
  • However, use determines the speed of Trion depletion; it is possible for Nasu to use up her Trion through attacks. Damaging the Trion body also creates a Trion 'bleed', the severity of which depends on how severe the attack would have been to a human body. For example, severing two or more limbs would rapidly decrease the amount of time the body could remain.
TL;DR, theoretically if Nasu was just standing around in Trion form, the only limit would be how long her real body could go before needing water/food/etc. In battle, bodies usually last up to a few hours. In intense battle, Trion bodies usually last 30 minutes to an hour.

Nasu's Trigger also allows her to access a limited number of trigger functions:
  • Viper: An attack that involves shooting multiple fast-moving energy "bullets", whose zigzagging, angular trajectory can be determined by Nasu just before firing.
  • Meteora: A ranged Trion explosion, capable of destroying a building or taking out part of a bridge, etc. However, Meteora uses up Trion quickly, so it's not suitable for rapid spamming.
  • Tomahawk: Combines the destructive power of Meteora with the bulletspam of Viper. Slower moving than the Viper, and requires a short delay to prepare.
  • Shield: An energy shield.
  • Bail out: If Nasu is too badly injured, this function will automatically return her to headquarters. Bail out can also be manually activated at any time using a verbal command.
  • Communicator (standard to all agents): Enables telepathic communication between Border agents within earshot of each other.
  • Radar (standard to all agents): A trigger that detects the position of Trion bodies within an area, unless they are cloaked. The range would cover a fairly large swath of a town.

Rescue Write-up: The siren was silent.

That was all Nasu could think of, running through the abandoned houses of the Forbidden Zone as she tried to get a hold of headquarters, Shiki, anyone. She was quick, but they were quicker.

A new type of Trion Soldier? But if so, Border's defense system should have been activated at once. Either way, she couldn't just let the opportunity slide through her fingers. If she was defeated, so be it; her battle would provide vital information for her fellow agents.

A brightly glowing, pale cube of energy appeared, hovering above the fingertips of one hand. As she ran, it fissioned into smaller clones of itself, each spreading out to form a loose, rotating halo of energy around her body. She looked back over her shoulder.

She fired. For a moment, the entire area was bathed in that same pale light; tens of Trion projectiles cut a razor's path through the space between her and her pursuers. They were humanoid but not human, almost mirror-black in color, with long limbs -- keep out of range, she thought -- and longer strides.

The Viper fire had caught two of them, but a third leapt over her head, its chest cavity opening to accept her even as she realized it was upon her. She knew what would happen, and worse: it would all be for nothing if she couldn't warn headquarters. In that moment, she saw one more figure, up ahead and coming out of the trees. Tachikawa? Jin, with his ability to look into the future and pick out the little threads that fate threatened to cut short?

As she began to dissolve, as her vision began to blur beyond recognition, she cried out for help.
